Talaki is a DIS community project initiated by DIS teachers, students and parents to support the integration of refugees. The Arabic word Talaki means 'Come Together'. The aim is to create a friendly and welcoming environment for local refugee families to get to know the international community at DIS through joint activities, e.g. play music together, games, sports and many more.
The DIS Talaki team organizes events at school 2-3 times a school year. After having organized several Talaki events at school, the team organized the first concert for everybody who loves world music and a charity run in June 2017.
Talaki Nominated for the "Sächsischer Bürgerpreis"
The DIS TALAKI initiative has successfully passed the first phase in the nomination process of the Saxon Citizen Award. We are happy to announce that the TALAKI project was nominated for the "Sächsischer Bürgerpreis" (Saxon Citizen Award) in the category "Engagement in der Schule für Demokratie und Toleranz" (School's commitment to democracy and tolerance) in 2017.
On Wednesday, June 21, almost 170 Secondary School students ran for a good cause in the Waldpark. The run was organized by two grade 11 students, Lucia MacKenzie and Florian Gabler. The charity run raised in total 500 Euros for the Dresden organization “Mission Lifeline e.V.,” which helps rescue refugees who get into dangerous situations at sea while they attempt to come into Europe.
So far, due to fundraising “Mission Lifeline” was able to buy a ship, which will save lives in the Mediterranean Sea, but more money is needed in order to buy fuel and maintain the crew.
If you would like learn more about “Mission Lifeline Seenotrettung e.V.” or would like to make a donation please visit: www.mission-lifeline.de or contact talaki[at]dresden-is.de.

March 2017: The ship can be bought!
The organization is now able to buy the ship. They are able to buy the ship that costs 130,000 Euro. To get everything going the organization is raising more funds to finance additional costs, for example only the transport to Hamburg costs 8,000 Euro. We will continue supporting the initiative!
A ship goes on a journey
Grade 11 students and their art teacher have created a "ship of hope" to realize a long term support. The ship is travelling to friends and supporters and collects more donations to finance the missions and additional costs such as transport to Hamburg, personnel. The art object will travel from a school to a company to a practice. These harbors have been already piloted:
Bankhaus Lampe Dresden
If you want to be the next harbor or you know a place for the ship, please contact talaki[at]dresden-is.de
