Assessment is integral to all teaching and learning. The purposes of assessment are to promote student learning, to provide information about student learning and to contribute to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the program.
Teachers and students use a variety of assessment tools. Three components of our assessment program which we use to provide information about student learning are our report cards (issued in February and June) and two progress reports (in October and April), parent conferences and our student led conferences.
Summative assessment includes tests, exams, projects, portfolios, essays, oral presentations and other means by which the students' learning at the end of a unit of study and at the end of a semester is measured. An evaluation is made of student performance against criteria based on the IBO international standards published in each subject syllabus.
At DIS students are graded at the end of each trimester according to the IBO 1-7 scale, the latter being the highest.
