Application Process

We know that starting or changing school is a big step, particularly internationally. This can be a little daunting. We therefore aim for the Dresden International School application procedure to be as clear and transparent as possible, to enable you to plan as effectively as possible. DIS accepts applications for all groups and class levels throughout the school year.

Below you will find an overview of the stages that an application to the Dresden International School follows on its journey from pre-enquiry through to enrolment. In each box below you'll find further details about each stage of the process. Do you have another question or concern?

Introductory Conversation and Visit to the School

Step 2:

It is important for us that you get a comprehensive insight into our school programme. We would also like to get to know you and your child. Please plan for a one-hour visit.

Interview and Placement Assessments

Step 3:

After we have received the completed application package from you, we will arrange appointments with the appropriate principals in either the Primary (Preschool and Grades 1-5) and/or Secondary School (Grades 6-12).

To ensure the appropriate placement of your child according to his/her academic level, all children from Preschool to Grade 5 will be assessed during the application process. We will notify you of an available appointment.

For Grades 6-12, your child will be tested in English and Maths, and, if applicable in German. These tests are standardized. An extended English test might also be required.

Final Decision

Step 4:

After the application process has been completed, we will share our final decision with you. Once your child has been accepted and enrolled at our school, you will receive a school contract.

Financial aid is available and is granted if the verified income of the parents does not allow for the payment of the regular tuition fees. In order to find out if you are eligible, please fill out a Financial Aid application.
