At DIS parents are not only welcomed, but highly valued and well integrated into our school community. Each school year, well over 200 parents volunteer their time, energy and expertise to support student learning and to support many activities.
At DIS, there are countless ways for parents to get involved. You can help in classrooms and libraries, join field trips, speak to students about careers, mentor research projects, or coach a sports team. Parental support is also key to our performing arts and sporting events. Parents often act as ambassadors for new families, organize celebrations and fundraisers, and even serve on the Board of Trustees or the DIS Förderverein.
We regularly invite parents to our “Parent Coffee Mornings” at the school and preschool, a great opportunity to meet the school leadership team and connect with other parents. The Community Room is a welcoming space for gatherings, and parents can also borrow books from our parent library. Weekly English courses are also offered for parents.
We view parents as true partners in their child’s education and school life.
If you would like to get involved, please email your name and a brief description of your interests to info@dresden-is.de.
Around Town
To move in a foreign country and to enter a new school is always challenging. We would like to offer our help to make your start here as smooth as possible. We would like to make you familiar with the city, your neighborhood, and the school that you can enjoy living in Dresden.
Are you new at our school or in Dresden? Transitioning to a new school, new city, new culture and perhaps new language can be a daunting and sometimes lonely experience. Here at DIS we would like to make this transition as smooth and easy as possible, not only for children, but for parents too. Our Welcoming Committee is looking forward to helping you.
DIS keeps in touch with the school's alumni - whether you were a student or parent via our alumni programme. Our growing, mobile community would like to include you, hear your story or help you get in touch with members of the network of the greater DIS community.
