Parents

At DIS parents are not only welcomed, but highly valued and well integrated into our school community. Each school year, well over 200 parents volunteer their time, energy and expertise to support student learning and to support many activities.

The volunteer opportunities at our school are endless. Parents help in classrooms and libraries, and join our field trips. They speak to students about careers, mentor students through research projects and coach one of our sport teams. Parental support, including hosting guest students, helps our performing arts and sporting events run smoothly. You will find parents acting as ambassadors for new families, organizing celebrations and fundraising events, and leading our school as members of the Board of Trustees and of the DIS Förderverein.

Regularly we invite our parents to the so-called “Parent Coffee Mornings” at the school and preschool.

This is a great opportunity to chat with our school leadership team and with other parents. The Community Room at our school campus is a place parents can come together. There is also a parent library where parents can borrow books. Once a week we do offer an English course for parents.

We see parents as partners and the school actively encourages them to be involved in their child's education and school life in general.

If you would like to get involved, please send a short email with your name and with a brief description of what you are interested in doing to info(at)dresden-is.de.

DIS Community Network

Our school has the DIS Community Network that acts as a focal point for general parent volunteerism and unites parents from both campuses. We also have a Booster Club for parents wishing to volunteer in our sports department.

Our DIS Community Network

Parent Council

The Parent Council is a group of parents elected by parents to give them a voice. Parent Council representatives of each grade level have an important role to play in school improvement by ensuring that the parental perspective is represented and taken into account.

Around Town

To move in a foreign country and to enter a new school is always challenging. We would like to offer our help to make your start here as smooth as possible. We would like to make you familiar with the city, your neighborhood, and the school that you can enjoy living in Dresden.

Family Transition

Are you new at our school or in Dresden? Transitioning to a new school, new city, new culture and perhaps new language can be a daunting and sometimes lonely experience. Here at DIS we would like to make this transition as smooth and easy as possible, not only for children, but for parents too. Our Welcoming Committee is looking forward to helping you.

Alumni

DIS keeps in touch with the school's alumni - whether you were a student or parent via our alumni programme. Our growing, mobile community would like to include you, hear your story or help you get in touch with members of the network of the greater DIS community.

Giving Back

Being part of our vision “Giving Back” is an essential element of our school philosophy.

We have a rich history of support from all members of our community for our nearly 25 years of existence.
