Student Assessment and Evaluation
Assessment is integral to all teaching and learning. The purposes of assessment is to promote student learning, to provide information about student learning and to contribute to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the program.
Teachers and students use a variety of assessment tools. To inform students and parents about student learning, we issue report cards in February and June, and give progress reports in October and April. Parents are also invited to attend parent conferences as well as the biannual student-led portfolio conferences.
Summative assessment includes tests, exams, projects, portfolios, essays, oral presentations and other means by which the students' learning at the end of a unit of study and at the end of a semester is measured. An evaluation is made of student performance against criteria based on the IBO international standards published in each subject syllabus.
At DIS students are graded at the end of each semester according to the IBO 1-7 scale, the latter being the highest.
