A group of MYP students and students of other Dresden schools attended a very special event at the Stadtmuseum. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Dresden bombing, the students met the Saxon Minister-President Michael Kretzschmer and the contemporary witness Nora Lang.
Following a guided tour through the exhibition, Mrs. Lang talked about her experiences. At only 13 years of age, she survived the night of bombing on February 13, 1945. After getting separated from her parents, Mrs. Lang took care of her little brother who was only five years old. Luckily two days later the children and their parents were reunited. The students were really moved by the story.
Finally, students discussed reconciliation, political structures and what every single person can do to preserve peace with Mrs. Lang and Saxon's Minister-President. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn more about Dresden's history that was brought to life. Mrs. Lang's stories and her and Mr. Kretschmer’s appeal to the younger generation to work for peace and for democracy made a strong impact on our students.
