Today was our first full day of campus closure to prepare for our off-campus continuous learning which starts on Wednesday. A small number of students attended at Main Campus and at G18.
We would like to emphasize to the whole community that in accordance with Saxony state authorities guidance DIS must be closed for students in the interests of public safety at this time of Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak affecting the country. Except for emergency care reasons our School and Preschool campus will be closed for all students from Wednesday onwards.
Tomorrow the main school campus will again be open to parents and visitors and office staff can be contacted by email and phone. Students may also be on campus briefly only to collect any personal belongings and learning materials needed for the coming weeks. Students must leave campus immediately afterward. Teachers are currently working hard on their preparations for online learning which starts on Wednesday.
Today we were informed of the details of emergency care provision that will apply to DIS. Emergency care measures provided by the school will only affect Preschool (including K5) and Grades 1-4. We expect that emergency care will apply to a very small number of students at DIS.
A right to emergency care for families is only granted within a very restrictive framework and the employment areas of “critical infrastructure” are regulated in the annex (see attached). For those families eligible for emergency care, employers must also confirm on the attached form that the legal guardians are active in the area of “critical infrastructure” and are absolutely necessary for its operation. Please note that, additionally, both parents are required to be working in critical employment roles to be eligible for the emergency care of their child. Please submit the completed form to school (kschreiber@dresden-is.de) via email with a scanned copy by Wednesday 18 March at 8:00am.
In order to assist us in our planning for emergency care provision at DIS, I would be grateful if you could inform Ms. Katrin Schreiber by email (kschreiber@dresden-is.de) no later than Tuesday 17th March at 13:00 if you believe that your child is eligible for emergency care. We will then provide further details on arrangements for emergency care to those families who are entitled to receive it once plans are in place for Wednesday.
Tomorrow afternoon the community portals for continuous learning fully accessible for all families at DIS. For PYP families this is a reminder to complete the survey to assess the level of support for your child's learning needs when we close. Please complete this as soon as possible so that our staff can begin to make plans tomorrow.
